Current Research Projects
The YARC recognizes that research is often difficult to understand.
Check out this article for some tips on translating and breaking down research articles!
Youth Overdose Prevention Study
Goal: To empower pediatric medical providers how to teach overdose prevention in primary care.
What we’re doing: We brought together a group of youth, families, and medical providers to develop an overdose prevention intervention.
Updates: We are currently testing the intervention in Pediatrics and Family Medicine at Boston Medical Center in a randomized controlled trial*. If it’s acceptable to youth and providers, we will conduct a larger study to see if it works.
Funding: National Institute on Drug Abuse - National Institutes of Health (R61DA062217)
Youth Empowerment Study (YES)
Goal: Create overdose prevention materials that are easy for young people to understand and use.
What we’re doing: We’re holding focus groups and PhotoVoice sessions with young people in Massachusetts and Rhode Island to get a better sense of how they view overdose risks and the drug supply. We’re also interviewing adults who take care of young people to understand their take on these risks. We’ll use what we learn to co-create educational materials for young people.
Updates: We’ve finished our focus groups with youth and are now analyzing what we learned as kick off the PhotoVoice project. Interviews with adults are in progress.
